Spartianus

Ælius Spartianus is, according to the tradition, one of the six writers of the Histoire Auguste , author of the life of many emperors, of which Hadrian and Caracalla. According to its writings it would have lived under Dioclétien and Constantin I {{er}}.

It is allowed since the searchs for H. Dessau, at the end of the nineteenth century, that it forever existed, either that the five others scriptores . They are only the pseudonyms of the real author of the collection of biographies whose exact identity is unknown, and who undoubtedly lived between the extreme end of the fourth century and the beginning of the fifth. Since the searchs for H. Dessau, the collection of the History Auguste caused innumerable scientific research, of which in France that of A. Chastagnol which gave in 1994 a translation richly with accompanying notes of this attractive and difficult work.
