Article 92 of the Spanish Constitution of 1978 provides that the political decisions of an particular importance could be submitted to all the citizens by the way of an advisory referendum . The Parliament must then decide.

Watchword of the parties and other organizations

All the parties invited to vote for the Constitution, as well as the majority of the trade unions. This poll is however an opinion, the final ratification being done later on by the parliamentary way.

Result of the poll

Contrary to France, the calculation of the electoral results seems to take into account the blank votes in the end result. A calculation made following the French methods would give 81,65% for “yes” and 18,35% for “not”.
