SpamAssassin is a free project carried out by the Apache Software Foundation, author of the very famous Web server Apache HTTP Server.

Objective

The goal of this Logiciel is to filter the traffic of the emails for éradiquer the emails recognized like Pourriel S or spams.

Vis-a-vis the big raise of the Spam, this software knows an important passion and is adaptable on many waiters of emails of which Procmail, Sendmail, Postfix, Exim, Qmail; it can be installed on the majority of the system baseds on Linux, Windows and Mac OS X.

Spamassassin is distributed free under the license Apache Software License, but it is possible to contribute to it financially to encourage the development.

Operation

SpamAssassin is a program (in Perl) which makes pass a certain number of tests to the message. According to the result of these tests, it allots a score to the message.

If the score exceeds a certain threshold, the email is then regarded as Spam. SpamAssassin modifies the title of the message then (it frames it by ***** SPAM *****). Moreover, SpamAssassin positions two new headings with the message: X-spam-Status and X-Spam-Level.

These two headings then make it possible to create filters in your customer email to direct the message (for example the Corbeille).

All the messages must thus pass by SpamAssassin to be treated, before arriving in their final file.
