Spa (hydrotherapy)

SPA comes from Latin " sanitas per aquam" (health by water). It is possible that the town of Spa endorsed this acronym.

Spa is a generic term usually employed to speak about Thermalisme.

It is retained that William Slingsby, who had remained with Spa, discovered in 1571 a source in the Yorkshire which it called Harrogate. Doctor Timothy Bright called it in 1596, " The English Spaw" , from where the generic term seems to come spa.
