Cultural diversity and linguistics

As of the XVIe century, Spa known an international success from its water and accommodated there the Bobelins of multiple origins and languages. The English were fond of delicacies stays with Spa and were numerous there to represent the english-speaking. In addition, Spa, the French-speaking person, was with the borders of the the Rhineland, German-speaking, of the Netherlands of the South, Dutch-speaking at its border, and was close, by its Principauté of Liege, of the Royaume of France. Each visitor brought there a little his culture and his language, without forgetting that the spadois spoke, between them, the Wallon inhabitant of Li2ege.

In Spa, the French-speaking person, the opening to the languages and cultures remained impregnated until the XXIe century. , In addition to French, the reception is indeed easily found and the services of and with the tourists and residents, in English, Dutch, German, etc Spa remains faithful to its fame of Café of Europe.

It is not, amongst other things, certainly a chance if it is in Spa that was born, in 1975, the linguistic center Ceran Lingua International which today developed in England, Spain and France.

" Coffee of Europe" then " Bead of Ardennes" and " Country of gold bleu"

In the years 1980, the service of tourism of the town of Spa and the Office of Promotion of Tourism (OPT) of the Walloon region characterized Spa like the “Pearl of the the Ardennes… in its bosky bower”. The historical character of its “tourist” prevalence in Ardenne since the XVIIe century justified it. Today, its tourist infrastructure of charm complete; casino, aerodrome, golf, thermal baths, walks, lodging all categories, gourmet restaurants, etc, its events cultural permanent; Francofolies, Festival of theater, various exposures, etc, its sports events major; Large-prices of Spa-Francorchamps, the Peaks of Spa, etc, and of course its water and its twenty sources, always justify it.

The Ardennes seem to be become a new ground of Ostréiculture and to conceal other new pearls. Rock-in-Ardenne qualifies in the same way “Pearl of the Ardennes”, as much as its French colleague, Monthermé, in Champagne-Ardenne or Geraardsbergen and Oudenaarde in Eastern Flanders which is qualified both in the same way by analogy relative of reliefs with the Ardennes, called commonly the the Flemish Ardennes.

Spa is also registered in a broader partnership with the common neighbors of Jalhay, Stavelot, Theux and Trois-Ponts to form the " Country of the sources" in " Ardenne Bleue" , district of Verviers of which it forms part.

In 1781, the emperor Joseph II, in stay with Spa, qualified it Café of Europe, which signifait a world major center. At that time, one counts in Spa more than one hundred of hotels and the Bobelins of all the Europe are, each season, from 600 to 1200, remarkable number for the time.

Spa receives also the qualifier of the " Country of gold bleu" with its score of sources in the country of Tintin and Hergé. One will easily make the bringing together with the title of the album of Tintin: " With the country of the black gold ".
