Spa94 flotilla

The Spa 94 is a flotilla of tradition of the French Air force created during the First World War. It is always active in 2007 and forms one of the escadrilles of the Escadron of hunting 2/2 Coast-in Or on the basis of Dijon-Longvic.

History

First World War

The flotilla Spa 94 has very a long story since it was born with Melette, on June 1st, 1917.

Equipped at its beginnings with Nieuport, it takes part in the war on SPAD S.XIII as a combatant with the top of the Marne, with Pierrefonds, Beauvais, the top of the Meuse and Chalons-sur-Marne.

With the November 11th, 1918, Spa 94 counts 52 victories of which 22 are allotted to the lieutenant Pierre Marinovitch, 5th air ace French of the First World War. The flag was decorated with the Military Cross with palm.

Between two wars

In 1919, Spa 94 becomes the 6th Flotilla of the 2nd Group of the 1st Regiment of hunting to Thionville.

In 1924, it becomes the 3rd Flotilla of the Group of hunting of the 24e mixed Régiment of aviation.

It is equipped respectively in 1930 and 1931 with Nieuport 29 and Nieuport 62.

In 1932, it forms with the Spa 62 the 2nd Group of the 1st Squadron to the Le Bourget. It passes by Villacoublay in 1934 then by Etampes in 1936 on Dewoitine D.510.

Second world war

In 1940, it takes part in the war on Bloch 152 with the top of Laon, then of Brétigny, Montbard, Clermont, Valensole, and the Luc.

It is dissolved by the Germans on November 27th, 1942.

Cold war

The Mort which mows form in October 1949 with the Spa 31 the Escadron of hunting 3/2 Gold Coast on Vampire Mk.5.

It is joined on November 1st 1950 by the Spa 57 Mouette and the Spa 65 Chimère of money within the 3/2 Gold Coast, becoming the 3rd Flotilla. It becomes 3rd Flotilla of EC. 2/2 on April 25th 1951, then is equipped with Ouragan in August 1953 then of Mystère IV has in 1956.

But in 1957, the Mort which mows is again dissolved (for reason of budgetary economies).

Spa 94 remains in sleep until October 1972, where the increase in the number of French and foreign pilots to transform led to the resumption of the traditions of Spa 94 by the ECT 2/2. It flies then on Mirage IIIB, BE and C.

Finally on July 1st 1986, the first Mirage 2000 arrive at the squadron, which finds his initial denomination of EC. 2/2. It keeps its mission of transformation on two-seater until the end of the year 1998, where she is entrusted to Mirage 2000 of Orange.

Nowadays

Entirely re-equipped in Mirage 2000 single-seaters, the Mort which mows finds its vocation first: hunting.

At October 1999, the first Mirage 2000-5F arrive at the Escadron of hunting 2/2 Coast-in Or, whose some specimens carry prestigious the Mort which mows on their drift.
