Sozopol
Sozopol (Bulgarian: Созопол) is a small town located at 30 km of Bourgas on the Black Sea.
The first signs of human occupation on the site of Sozopol go back to the fourth or third millennium before JC, at the time of civilization Thrace. Archaeological Artéfact S found on the spot go back to the Bronze Age. At the 6th front century JC, Milet installs a colony under the name of Antheia there. This name will be rapident changed into Apollonia, because of a temple devoted to Apollon and whose colossal statue, transported later by Lucullus with Rome, will be placed in the Capitole.
Sozopol will be successively occupied by the Byzantines, the Bulgarian ones and the Othomans.
After Bulgarian independence at the 19th century, the area of Sozopol was integrated into Bulgaria; almost all its Greek population moved in Greece and was replaced by Bulgarian refugees come from Eastern Thrace (left European the Turkey).
