Origin

Aphyosemion southern is originating in the coastal area located between the mouth of the Ogowe river (at the North-West of Gabon) and Zaire.

Description

5 cm length. Male very coloured, female clear beige. The wild form (in the male) is brown with the greenish sides strewn with points dark red. A variety of breeding known as " gold" orange sharp is strewn with points brown clearly. In the two varieties the dorsal fins, anal and caudal are surlignées of black and white.

Maintenance and behavior

Water preferably must be acid and rather soft. The temperature will have to be included/understood between 20 and 24°C, an higher temperature being long-term mortal. Filtration is optional so regular water changes are carried out. Calm behavior, provided that there are enough masks. One can maintain several couples in the same aquarium, provided that this one rather large and is well planted. A specific vat is quasi essential, particularly for the reproduction. As all the killies this fish can be only satisfied of a vat of 10 liters.

Reproduction

Rather easy species with a little experiment in breeding, ideal for which wants to begin with the killies. The abrasion is done in small specific vat. The eggs have a continuous development lasting approximately 12 days. The alevins can be nourished desuite with nauplies of artémias.
