South Los Angeles
South Los Angeles is the official name of the great geographical and cultural area being spread out in the south and the south-east of the Downtown Los Angeles. This zone was formerly known under the name of South Central Los Angeles (or South Central in a shortened way). The decision to change the name was made in 2003 with an aim of scrambling the memory of a zone of violence and destruction. The name South Central had become about the synonym of urban decline and crime of street. But much of inhabitants of Los Angeles always use the old denomination.
