The South Lanarkshire ( Siorrachd Lannraig in Scottish Gaelic) is one of 32 administrative divisions of the Scotland. It coincides with the southern part of the old county of Lanarkshire.

District

Of a surface of 1.772 km ², South Lanarkshire is the 11th administrative division of Scotland by its size and 5th by its population (305 410 inhabitants).

South Lanarkshire divides its borders with the Dumfries and Galloway in the south, the East Ayrshire and the East Renfrewshire in the west, Glasgow and the North Lanarkshire in north, the West Lothian and the Scottish Borders in the east.

This area was created in 1996, starting from the districts of Clydesdale, Hamilton, East Kilbride, the royal burghs of Cambuslang and parts of the great agglomeration of Glasgow.

Four elected officials represent South Lanarkshire with the Parliament of Great Britain and five others with the Scottish Parlement. The party places from there in this area is the Workers party.
