The South Georgia is an island of the Atlantic Ocean southern which belongs to the British overseas territory of South Georgia and the Sandwich islands of the South.

Geography

The South Georgia is a 172 km length island, very mountainous, whose culminating point is the Paget mount (: 2934 m), covered with glaciers and rich in fauna.

The South Georgia is located in the south of the Atlantic Ocean, with approximately: 1390 km in the south east of the Falkland Islands (54-55°S, 36-38°O). Its surface is of: 4066 km ². It is mountainous, with 11 tops with more: 2000 m (the Paget mount, high of: 2934 m, are besides the culminating point of all United Kingdom).

It is also prone to a Volcan active ism.

Climate

The climate is variable, with winds of west throughout the year, stopped by periods of calm. Almost all precipitations fall in the form of snow. The difficult climatic conditions return the approach of the difficult island by boat.
