South American plate

The South American plate is a Tectonic plate of the Lithosphère of the Planet Ground. Its surface is of 1,030  45 steradians. One generally associates with it the plates of the the Andes of north and the Altiplano.

It couvre :

The South American plate is in contact with the plates of the the Andes of North, of Nazca, the Altiplano, the Antarctic, Scotia, Sandwich, African, North-American and Caribbean.

Its borders with the other plates are in particular formed of the Fosse of Peru and Chile on the peaceful coast of South America, of the Fosse of the Caribbean on the east coast of the Antilles, of the Fosse of the Sandwich on the east coast and North of the Sandwich islands and the Dorsale the médio-Atlantic in the Atlantic Ocean.

The displacement of the South American plate is done towards North at 1,45 centimetre per annum or at a number of revolutions of 0,6365° per million of years according to a pole eulérien located at 55°00' of Northern Latitude and 85°75' of Longitude Western (référentiel : peaceful Plate).
