Sources of Touvre

Sources

The sources of the Touvre are consisted of the Door frame, of the Ebullient one, of Font of Lussac and of Lèche which appear under the ruins of the castle of Touvre. Actually it is about the more important second Résurgence in France after the Fountain of Vaucluse. These sources are fed by underground rivers coming from the Karst of Rochefoucauld.

A series of coloring to the Fluorescéine proved that water comes primarily from the losses of the Bandiat and of the Tardoire. To a lesser extent one finds there water of the Bonnieure and Scale.

The cause of resurgence is the Faille of the Scale where a 500 m thickness of marnes of the Kimméridgien lower impermeable bar the road than the underground flow of water and obliges them to go back to surface.

  • the Ebullient one has a 15 meters depth. A collecting in its water ensures the drinking water supply of the agglomeration of Angouleme. A natural Digue separates it from the Door frame, deep of 25 meters.
  • Does It of Lussac has a 4,50 meters depth. The source of Lussac seems to have a depth from 150 to 200 meters. The Scale is also thrown in the sources.

The flow of Touvre is measured regularly since 1919. It strongly varies with the seasons between 7 m ³ /s in September and 17,6 m ³ /s in February. The interannual average is of 13,5 m ³ /s.
