Source of tension

A source of tension indicates the devices being able to produce a electromotive Force. There exist several types of sources of tension; stabilized sources of tension, symmetrical sources of tension, adjustable sources of tension.

Source of stabilized tension

Definition

A source of stabilized tension is a source of tension which remains constant whatever the load applied.

Theoretical representation

A source of tension is represented by a source of tension and its resistance intern. This internal resistance can be in series with the load or parallel. A source of stabilized tension is represented by a source of tension and an internal resistance which tends towards 0 if the latter is put in series with the load. In the case or the load would be put in parallel with internal resistance, the value of the latter will have to tend towards the infinite one.

Practical

In practice a source of tension will always have a nominal power. If this limit is exceeded, the load will generate a loss of tension.

Symmetrical source of tension

A symmetrical source of tension has obligatorily the two following characteristics.
  1. It has three exits: positive (+), commun run (0) and negative (-).
  2. the characteristics of the source of the positive side are symmetrical with the characteristics on the negative side.
