Source Saint-Hubert de Lemberg

The Pompöserbronn (in French Source Saint-Hubert ) is a Rocher of the communal Forêt of Lemberg and French Département of the the Moselle.

History

The wall of a rock to the foot of the Schlossberg , in the forest of Boneckel , is decorated with a Bas-relief. The relief, eroded enough, represents two characters debouts: Diane, goddess of the Forest and the Hunting, fitted high boots, accompanied by a unspecified God, draped, holding of the left hand a haste. These two characters are surrounded by various animal: a Chien is upright in front of the head of a Cheval or of a Aurochs, two sat, that of left, close to a tree, turns the head, and the fourth cheek with a Sanglier. With the extreme right-hand side of the rock one can observe a combat of stag S.

This Bas-relief is known in the area under the name of Pompöserbronn or source of Saint-Hubert, fountain due to Pompée. More probable is interpretation than any logger gives some, namely that of a character carrying of the puffing out breeches, called in dialect Bombhose ( pumphose ), referring to the tunic of gross fabric carried by Diane. ----
