There is in 2006 in France, only 3 000 people approximately working in the sound. It is a very stopped way, and whose 80% of employment relate to the audio-visual sectors (cinema, television, radio) and of multi-media (20% for the music, wiring for sound in concerts)
The activities of the sound engineer are multiple:

With the Cinema
- For the Chief-operator of the sound, to make sure of the good recording of the its in collaboration with the Pole vaulter (boom operator). He manages the levels of recording.

- Larsen S
- Delay
- spatialization
- restitution of the harmonics (analyzes spectral on pink Bruit)
- dimensioning of the systems of diffusion (returns, frontage)
- positioning of the systems of diffusion
- Éventuellement the sound engineer and the sonorisator can train only one person
Foot-note: in France, no diploma is obligatory to fulfill this function, the title of “engineer” pertaining to the common language. On the other hand, it is very strongly advised to have a business card: this one is delivered by the CNC according to the number of films carried out as assistant (boom operator). Obtaining the diploma of the École Louis-Light makes it possible to obtain the chart of assistant directly. One can reach this school with a level VAT + 2 the VAT + 3 being recommended. 2 orientations are interesting: a course MIME with faculty or a audio-visual BTS option trades of the sound
