Soumy (in Ukrainian: Суми, in Russian: Сумыest) is a city of the North-East of the Ukraine, capital of the Oblast de Soumy. Its population is of: 293141 inhabitants.
Geography
Soumy is on the river Psel, affluent left of the
Dniepr, to 30 km of the Russian border
(Koursk is to 130 km), to 140 km in the North-West of
Kharkiv and to 300 km in the east of
Kiev.
History
The city was set up in
1652 to be used as fortress Cosaque against the attacks of the
Tatars of the Crimea.
Economy
The hydrocarbon reserves of the area make it possible the town of hope to open towards the occident.
