Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga

Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga (usually called SBM), born on June 8th 1954 with Gao, is a politician Mali in.

Biography

Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga made studies of journalism in the Center of studies of sciences and information techniques (CESTI) of the Université of Dakar to the Senegal, as in France where it obtains a diploma of specialized Higher learning (OF) of diplomacy and administration of the international organizations in 1987 at the University of Paris-South and a diploma of international economic relations at the Institute of administration of Paris. He initially exerts the journalistic profession with Rise, daily newspaper of State then to the Sunjata newspaper.

Militant within the Left Malian work, it was one of the principal craftsmen of the fall of the mode of Moussa Traoré in 1991. He enters to the cabinet of Amadou Toumani Touré, then president of the Committee of transition for safety from people (CTSP), in the capacity as special adviser of April 1991 in June 1992.

Vice-president and founding member of the Alliance for the democracy with the African Mali-Party for solidarity and justice (ADEMA/PASJ), It becomes in 1992, principal private secretary of the president of the Republic Alpha Oumar Konaré.

In January 1993, it is named managing director of the Safety of State before entering to the government of Mandé Sidibé as a Minister for the Armed forces and the war veterans.

In 2002, Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga is candidate with the candidature of Adéma/pasj for the presidential election of 2002.

In 2006, whereas Adéma decides to support the probable candidature of outgoing president Amadou Toumani Touré for the presidential election Malian of 2007, Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga announces its wish to be presented and founds association “convergence 2007”.

At the time of the national conference of the February 24th and 25th 2007 of Adéma, the delegates voted the exclusion of Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga, and several of its sympathizers: Issa Diarra, Ibrahima Kantao, Binta Yattassaye and Oumar Ag El Méhidi.

At the first turn of the presidential election, on April 29th, it arrives in 6th position with 1,46% of the voices. The outgoing president Amadou Toumani Touré is re-elected.

With the other candidates of the opposition gathered within the Face for the democracy and republic (FDR), Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, Mamadou Bakary Sangaré and Tiébilé Dramé, it disputes the results of a poll sullied with frauds and deposits a recourse to the constitutional court which rejects it on May 12th, 2007.
