Sotchi (in Russian Сочи) is a town of Russia located on the Black Sea, in the Russian part of the the Caucasus and in the Krai de Krasnodar. Its population rises with: 328014 inhabitants in 2006.
This balneal City, called the “ Riviera russe ”, very attended, a certain historical importance of 1929 with 1952 had. It was then the estival vacation resort of Joseph Stalin and many direct collaborators of this last. It will accommodate the Winter Olympics of 2014.
Geography
The city is located on the edges of the Black Sea. Bordered in the North-East, the east and south-east by the peaks of the Caucasus, the agglomeration is stretched on 145 kilometers of coasts.Sotchi profits from a surprisingly hot climate for its latitude: the temperatures in winter seldom fall below zero. The temperatures of summer are on average between 26 °C and 32°C with extremes exceeding the 40°C.

One meets in Sotchi of varied nationalities: Russian, but also Ukrainian, Belorusse, Arménie NS, Géorgiens, Greek, Estonia NS.
History
Joseph Stalin and the members of the Politburo very frequently spent the summer together to Sotchi. Stalin continued there to work and direct the Soviet Union. He sent multiple instructions by letters or telegrams to his subordinates remained in Moscow. For example, the order of Stalin to carry out the 16 condemned to dead of the first Procès of Moscow was given since Sotchi in the night from August 23rd to 24th 1936. In the same way, it is of Sotchi that Stalin and Jdanov sent the order to name the future prime-contractor of the Grandes Purgings, Iejov, at the supreme post of head of NKVD, on September 25th, 1936. During the Second world war of 1941 to 1945 Stalin stopped his stays at the seaside resort. More than five hundred and thousand soldiers of the Red Army was neat in Sotchi during the war.Sotchi and its neighborhoods (Adler, Dagomys, Krasnaïa Poliana) remain appraisal of the Russians today. The president Vladimir Poutine has a Datcha there.
Olympic city
The city was selected to be host city of the Winter Olympics of 2014. Sotchi preceded the towns of Salzburg (eliminated with the first turn) and Pyeongchang in South Korea. This nomination, obtained “ with the finish ” with the participation of Vladimir Poutine which was expressed for the first time in English then in French to support the candidature of Sotchi, is the first for Russia, great nation of the Winter Olympics. Russia had obtained, until now, only the organization of the Olympic Games of summer of 1980 with Moscow.To carry it, the Russian authorities promised massive investments estimated at 10 billion euros to make of Sotchi a complex of winter sports of world class and to connect this city of the Black Sea to the mountains of the the Caucasus. The Winter Olympics of Sotchi will be held from February 7th to 23rd 2014. The sporting tests will proceed on two sites :
• Olympic Park of Sotchi (“ complex côtier ”): Hockey, Speed skating, Figure skating, Shorts-track, Curling.
• Krasnaïa Poliana (“ complex of montagne ”): Bobsleigh, Skeleton, Toboggan, Biathlon, Ski touring, Alpine skiing, Snowboard, Ski jump, Combined Scandinavian.
