Sorosilicate

The sorosilicates are mineral of the family of the Silicate S whose tetrahedrons are grouped by two by one their tops ( soro = group).

The basic reason for the simple sorosilicates is: 6--

Those include in particular:

  • the Thortveitite (Sc, Y) 2Si2O7, silicate of Scandium
  • the Hémimorphite Zn4Si2O7 (OH) 22·H2O, important mineral of Zinc
  • the epidote S (Pistacite, Clinozoïsite etc)
  • the group of the Mélilite
  • the Vésuvianite or idocrase Ca10Mg2Al4 (SiO4) 5 (Si2O7) 2 (OH) 4

In the group of the complex sorosilicates still let us announce:

*l' hémimorphite or calamine Zn4Si2O7 (OH) 2.H2O important Zn ore:
* certain important calcium silicates in the chemistry of the cements, namely the cuspidene Ca4Si2O7F2, the tilleyite Ca5Si2O7 (CO3) 2:
*le TSH trisilicate of calcium whose formula is written: 3CaO. SiO2. 3/2 H2O or Ca6 (Si2O7) (OH) 6.
