Soriano

The department of Soriano is located in the west of the Uruguay.

Geography

The department is on the coasts of the Fleuve of Money ( río of Plata ). In the east, it is delimited by the department of Flores, in north by the Río Negro and in the south by the department of Colonia.

The department is one of most mountainous country. Indeed, it is crossed by many plates like the Cuchilla del Correntino in the north-eastern quarter, the Cuchilla del Perdido in the south-eastern quarter, Cuchillas of San Martín and of San Salvador in the south as well as the cuchilla del Bizcocho which crosses it right through.

It is this cuchilla del Bizcocho which shares the department into two catchment area with side that of the río Negro in north and the south, the río San Salvador , both are thrown in the Uruguay

History

The department belongs to the six first to be created in 1816 by the Uruguyan Révolution. Its original name was department of Santo Domingo Soriano

Economy

The breeding has an important place in the economy of the department, so much so that the Agriculture supplies it in Fourrage. There is a considerable production of Céréale S and another culture (like the Blé, Maïs, Tournesol, Orge, oats and the Potato) or of Laine. There are finally some breedings of Porc S and of Volaille S. industry is as for it completely overlapping there in these sectors (Tannerie S, Milk industry…)
