Sorcery in the Sky

Sorcery in the Sky was a fire of artifices given in the park Disney-MGM Studios. It began in 1989 and taken end in 1997 to leave the place to Fantasmic! in 1998.

The spectacle

This spectacle was designed with the image of Fantasy in the Sky and was represented on the principal place of the park. Fires of artifices exploded with the top and behind the reproduction of the Chinese Theater, trônant at the end of Hollywood Boulevard. Construction in 2001 of an imposing hat of Mickey in the center of the place makes this spectacle difficult to reproduce.

Description

The spectacle is in two parts separated by an advertisement. It begin with an advertisement in brass band followed by a rather traditional warning:
Mesdames and Sirs, boys and girls, Disney-MGM Studios are happy to present to you Sorcery in the Sky ! Lights! Camera! Action! .

The music evokes then the piano of the silent film and a projector starts to turn. Various airs of music follow one another then emphasized by fires of artifices:

  • Puttin' one the Ritz of Irving Berlin
  • Over the Rainbow in the film the Magician of OZ
  • Sings under the rain
  • the Bridge of the river Kwaï
  • Chim Chim Cher-ee in Mary Poppins
  • Rencontres of the third type
  • Star Wars with in addition to the noises of droïdes and cruisers
  • Thème of Indiana Jones in the Adventurers of the lost arch.

The following sequence is announced as follows:

Walt Disney a long time wished to take along the art of animation beyond the simple animated band. The evening of November 13rd, 1940, in front of the same theater as that Ci, and only twelve years after the beginnings of Mickey Mouse, the dream of Walt divnt reality. A three years effort for marrier graphic animation with the classical music was only completed two days before the first world one. The result titrated by the NewYork Times, " History of the cinema. Simply sensational! " was the film Fantasia .
Several extracts of film are then put colors by fires of artifices while a balloon in form of Mickey rises above the roof of Chinese Theater.
