Sophoklis Venizelos
Sophoklis Venizelos (in Greek: Σοφοκλής Βενιζέλος ), (1894 - 1964) Greek Politician who was twice Prime Minister of Greece.
Second wire of Eleftherios Venizelos, Sophoklis was used with distinction in the Greek army during the First World War and the initial phases of the countryside as Asia Mineure, reaching the row of Capitaine of Artillerie. He resigned of the army after being elected like deputy of the liberal party of his father to the elections of 1920. In 1941, after Greece was occupied by German troops, he becomes Ambassadeur with the the United States, representing the Greek government in exile based with the Cairo. He becomes Ministre of this government in 1943, and its Prime Minister in 1944.
At the end of the war, it returned to Greece and became vice-president of the liberal party (carried out by Themistoklis Sophoulis) and Minister for the first government of post-war period carried out by Georgios Papandreou. In 1948, it took the direction of the party and he was a Minister of a certain number of liberal governments of short duration carried out by Papandreou and Nikolaos Plastiras. He was also Prime Minister of two governments.
In 1954, its long friendship with Georges Papandreou is put to the test. They belonged to rival political parties. The disagreements were erased in 1958, and in 1961 he became a founding member of the Union of the Centers of Papandreou, where he militated until his death in 1964. Its tomb is beside that of his/her father in Crete.
