Sonic Rivals

Sonic Rivals is the first play Sonic to be left on PSP.

Gameplay

Sonic Rivals is a play of race being held with against one through six circuits, on an island called Onyx Island, which is in fact the Island of the Angel of the future. These circuits are divided into three acts, except the third where there are two of them. In each zone, there are several obstacles and badniks which is put across the road of the runners (4 characters). Certain objects are on the way to stop the rival (they can use snow-drifts or arrows of ice, fire, etc). The 3rd act is held against the boss. With each gained race, the player obtains a chart representing the artwork of a main character, a badnik, a boss (etc) of all the Sonic plays since 1991. One can also play as a multi-player mode, thanks to the network mode of the console.

Characters

Sonic : The fastest hedgehog of the world discovered that two of his/her best friends, Amy and Tails, were transformed into charts by Dr. Eggman, because of a strange camera. It must absolutely catch up with Robotnik to be able to find them.

Knuckles : The guard of the Emerald-Mother is not kind to let itself make. One day, whereas it supervised its invaluable jewel with its furnace bridge, it realized that she had disappeared under her nose! Very little time after the disappearance of the Emerald-Mother, it saw that an island had mysteriously appeared in the ocean. Feeling that Eggman was behind all that, it left on this island, that it was largely familiar for him, and saw that Eggman was already over there. This one taught him that it had transformed the Emerald-Mother into chart. Knuckles will also have to continue the doctor to him to find his jewel…

Shadow : The supreme form of life created by Gerald Robotnik is of return. Eggman called it by coded transmission and said to him to come to help it, because somebody continues it. Shadow uses its Control of Chaos to go on Onyx Island, and discovers that Eggman east continued by a silver plated hedgehog… After the first boss, Shadow finds the doctor strange, because he does not remember any more this transmission and persists in saying only he called it forever. Later, it will receive a transmission of Red which will say to him that it found something of interesting on Eggman, but the transmission is cut… It decides to find Eggman to make him say all the truth on its strange behavior, and to know what arrived at Rouge.

Silver : It is the new character of the play. It is a silver plated hedgehog which can use capacities telekinesic. He seek Eggman to have information on person whom he seeks, Eggman Nega. Eggman, him, known as that he does not know it, but Silver thinks that the doctor lies. It will have to continue Robotnik to know why it lies, which will bring it to recontrer Sonic, Knuckles, and Shadow. It also appears in Sonic Next Gen.

Contrary to certain recent plays (Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, or Sonic Heroes, it does not have there a Last Story where the characters are combined to fight a final boss in super form. They help each other just for the two acts of the last zone.

Zones

The zones are six. It take again the principle of the Sonic plays on Megadrive, i.e. the fact of having zones different from/to each other (tropical zone, ruins, desert, etc): there is Forest Falls , the jungle, Colosseum Highway , the ruins, Sky Park , the amusement park, Crystal Mountain , the covered with snow zone, Death Yard , the base of Eggman and Meteor bases , the spaceship of Eggman, here in the middle of a field of meteorites.
