Sonic Adventure is a Video game of platform of the series Sonic left on Dreamcast in 1998 with the Japan and in 1999 in the rest of the world.

Development

Scenario

After having seen Tails to land with difficulty with one of its very last flying machines, Sonic comes to him to assistance of Emerald Coast, first stage of action ( Action training course ) of the play. While returning to the city Station Public garden, Tails explains to him why it made use of one of the 7 Chaos emeralds like fuel, because their force is inexhaustible.

In front of the workshop of Tails, Dr. Robotnik steals their Chaos Emerald and on a creature made up mainly of named water “Chaos uses it”. Robotnik would like to make use of it in order to stripe Station Public garden of the chart and to build there in the place its own city “Robotnikland”. With each Emerald Chaos absorptive, it becomes more powerful and can become invincible if it obtains 7 Emerald Chaos.

Gameplay

Sonic Adventure is the first play of the series of the Sonic to take seat entirely in a universe in 3D. The Gameplay is divided into two distinct modes: the mode ventures ( Adventure Field ) and the levels itself called Action Training courses .

In the mode ventures, the player moves freely in various environments with the manner of a RPG to solve simple enigmas, to recover objects for its character and to find the entries of the levels.

In the Action Training courses , the gameplay depends on the selected character. The player indeed incarnates 6 different characters whom it progressively frees of the progression in the play: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Pink, E-102 Gamma and Big the Cat. Once the player finishes the adventures of the 6 main characters, it frees Super Sonic and must face the final boss.

The play is based on a system of emblems: the player has 3 missions to carry out in each level (for example with Sonic: to finish the level, to finish the level with 50 rings, to finish the level in an assigned time) and obtain an emblem by successful mission; emblems are also hidden in the Adventure Fields . To finish the play completely, the 180 emblems should be recovered.

Characters

Each playable character has his own history and his own end.

Main characters

Sonic

The hero of the play is a blue hedgehog. The gameplay in the line line of the preceding plays, but is transposed in 3D: to destroy the enemies, to recover the rings and to arrive at the end of the level.

Sonic is able to make a Spin Dash , i.e. a lifting race in which the hedgehog rolls on itself. Whether it is stopped or moving, the Spin Dash enables him to reach a supersonic speed. This capacity is used to him also as attack. Later, this attack will be modified to be even more powerful and will allow Sonic a very new capacity (only when you find its new shoes).

Tails

Miles “Tails” Prower , the fox with two tails, which does not rely on him and which idolâtre Sonic. It makes the race against Sonic and must finish the level before him. To go more quickly, it can fly to take short cuts. It has a gift in considerable mechanics and competes even with Robotnik.

Knuckles

Knuckles the Echidna lives on a floating island in the skies, of the name of Angel Island . Energy necessary to make it float is governed by a gigantic emerald, Master Emerald, whose Knuckles is the guard. But one day, whereas Robotnik passes just above the island, Chaos (pretense to leave emerald itself and to have a more or less direct bond with the arrival of Robotnik) destroyed the emerald, whose fragments are distributed on the whole of the close territory, on the surface of the Earth. Emptied energy, the island sinks then in the ocean, just beside Station Public garden…

Knuckles is an echidna which can plane and to cling to the walls. It also profits from a “natural radar” which announces to him any presence of energy coming from an emerald of Chaos and even of Master Emerald.

Amy Rose

A hérissonne, in love with Sonic. The gameplay is similar to that of Sonic, but much slower.

Amy Rose starts when it finds a small bird abandoned. It then decides to take it under its protection. Only, this one seems to be the prey of a robot malefic, Zero, which will try to seize some during the levels. It can nevertheless temporarily neutralize this last using its hammer fetish.

Amy will succeed in escaping the robot thanks to its desire to save the small bird. It will destroy finally its adversary and will save, in spite of it, the family of protected, which was captive in the entrails of the robot.

E-102 Gamma

Gamma is a robot built by Robotnik, insensitive, but which tests more and more feelings with the wire of the play. It was created starting from a bird, imprisoned in its entrails. It belongs to the series of E-100 robots. It is the second of the name, the first being E-101 Bêta, his “brother”.

Gamma belongs to the best robots than Robotnik built to date. It receives like mission of seizing a frog of the name of Froggy. It meets then Amy Pink, which will make him test for the first time of the feelings.

Gamma revolts then against its creator and undertakes to eliminate all the robots from the same series as him, in order to release the imprisoned animals… Once its achieved task, Gamma will be autodétruira…

Big the Cat

Big the Cat is an enormous cat which with the practice to fish, but it must try to find his friend Froggy, a frog. Big begins its adventure when Froggy becomes strange. A tail appeared to him and it suddenly takes the desire to him for being run away.

Super Sonic

Dr. Robotnik (called Eggman (egg head) by Sonic) is a genius whose IQ reaches 300. He decides in this opus to use the power of Chaos in order to nourish his ambitions of conquest of the world. Alas, its brilliant idea fails lamentably when the monster becomes unverifiable and surpuissant, leaving once more the future of the world between the hands of the blue hedgehog.

Chaos

Chaos, a mythological monster of liquid constitution, was created to protect Master Emerald, the 7 Emeralds of Chaos and small named fragile creatures chao. But when the tribe of Tikal wanted to seize 7 emeralds, Chaos absorbed them and became surpuissant. Its heart fills of anger and of sadness by seeing the chaos trampled by the soldiers of the tribe and Tikal had to lock up it with its heart in Master Emerald.

Thousands of years later, Eggman released Chaos and, involuntarily, the heart of Tikal, with an aim of dominating the world.

Various forms:

  • Chaos 0: First form of Chaos, it is the first boss of the play of which Sonic gets rid easily.

  • Chaos 1: Form Chaos after having absorbed a Emerald Chaos. It becomes larger and some bones are formed with its right-hand man, at the place where the emerald is absorbed. No character faces this form.

  • Chaos 2: Form Chaos after having absorbed the second Emerald Chaos. The bones of its right-hand man are propagated on its 2 arms, it is larger, its head is more leaning forwards and the horns on its head change place, giving him a pace of shark-hammer. It also gained capacities like a shield of blue energy to counter the frontal attacks and an ability to be transformed into an enormous blue ball, several small spheres or waves of water. Knuckles faces it in a hotel of Station Public garden; Sonic and Tails meet it right before its transformation into Chaos 4. The two emeralds in its possession are located in its right-hand man and its left arm.

  • Chaos 3 and 5: Forms ever shown in measurement or Chaos 2 and 4 absorb two emeralds at the same time, jumping the stages of Chaos 3 and 5.

  • Chaos 4: Chaos changes considerably, it now has the shape of an enormous shark. Its new capacities are waves of fire, the capacity to swim at very an high speed, to create water explosions and to transform themselves into 4 small spheres leaping right on the player. He faces Sonic, Tails and Knuckles but is made beat. Chaos Emerald 3 and 4 are in its abdomen.

  • Chaos 6: Chaos becomes a kind of gigantic scorpion. It has 8 eyes (even more) and of the teeth similar to razors. Contrary to its other forms, its brain being moved too deeply in its body to be able to be reached, it can be wounded only by freezing it then by striking it. Sonic and Knuckles face all two Chaos 6. Perfect Chaos easily is beaten in animated whereas it is difficult to beat in the play, but Final Hazard (final Boss of Sonic Adventure 2) which can be beaten easily into 1 min 30 dryness becomes a true wound in animated.

It will be also noted that the ray of energy leaving the mouth of Perfect Chaos is similar to the atomic ray of Godzilla, that Perfect Chaos itself resembles Biollante, a rival monster of Godzilla. Moreover the fact that it destroys the city during its confrontation against Super Sonic makes think of a combat Kaiju .

Tikal

Girl of Pachacamac, the chief of the tribe of echidnas of which it forms part (and whose Knuckles is the last survivor), Tikal tried to reason his/her father who wanted to seize 7 emeralds of Chaos for “the good of the tribe” but failed.

It is it which was locked up with Chaos in Master Emerald to prevent that it does not destroy the world. It takes care on chaos and Master Emerald. It understood that the 7 emeralds of Chaos are the servants of Master Emerald, as it is specified in the prayer with emeralds.

Levels

Adventure Fields

  • Station Public garden: The city with a hotel, a casino, the beach, an amusement park and trade.
  • Mystic Ruins : Accessible old ruins in the train where reign a rather mysterious temple.
  • Egg Carrier: The flying base of Robotnik.

Action Training courses

  • Emerald Coast : The first traditional level in all the Sonic plays. Seaside, fine sand and luxuriant vegetation with the program.
  • Windy Valley : A very air level in a mountainous decoration with much of wind and slopes.
  • Casinopolis: Another recurring level, that in a casino. To finish it, Sonic must play flipper and collect 400 rings. One can also note a wink with the play Nights into Dreams in the flipper Nights, where one is entitled to a passage by the universe of Nights.
  • Ice Cape: A level in snow and the ice, with a part where made Sonic of surfing.
  • Twinkle Park : A level which occurs in an amusement park and which starts with a futuristic race of kart.
  • Speed Highway: A level at high-speed which occurs in the city on many slopes.
  • Red Mountain : A level in the mountains with much of lava.
  • Sky Deck : A level on the vessel of Eggman which flies in the airs.
  • Lost World : A watery level in the middle of ancient ruins of the civilization of Tikal.
  • Hot Shelter : A level inside the vessel of Eggman, the only one that Sonic does not cross.
  • Final Egg: The last level, in the terrestrial base of Eggman being at the fine bottom of the jungle.

Bearing

The play left under Windows and GameCube under the name of Sonic Adventure DX Director' S Cut .
