Sonia Gandhi Hindi: सोनियागांधी, born Sonia Maino , (Lusiana, the December 9th 1946) is a political woman Indian of Italian origin. It is the president of the Parti the Congress of the India.
In 2006, it is classified like the most powerful woman in the world by the magazine Forbes. In 2007, it is classified 6th.
It is born in Italy, the December 9th 1946, with Lusiana, close to Vicence. It meets Rajiv Gandhi, oldest son of Indira Gandhi, whereas he makes his studies at the university of Cambridge in England.
They marry in 1968 and Sonia settles in the country of her husband. It is in addition of roman catholic confession.
She reaches the Indian citizenship in 1983 and this long interval between its marriage and this new nationality remains prone to controversy. In 1984, with the death of his/her mother Rajiv Gandhi becomes Prime Minister of India,
Sonia Gandhi does not deal with policy until the assassination of her husband the May 21st 1991, but following this event, she knows pressures on behalf of the Parti the Congress to perpetuate the dynastic tradition of control of the party by the family members of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
In 1998, it enters formally in policy, accepts the presidency of the weakened party and declares candidate at the post of Prime Minister. Benefitting from re-elected from its patronym, it gathers broad audiences and revitalizes the party of its only hands. She remains however an enigmatic character and the opposition - mainly the Bharatiya Janata Party - points out the fact unceasingly that she is not originating in the country and that she usually did not speak the Hindî before entering in policy, insinuating that she on the matter does not have other qualifications only her surname.
In 2004, it leads the Party of the Congress to the victory with the general elections and must reach the station of Prime Minister, but following a cabal of the Bharatiya Janata Party because of its Italian origins and in front of the difficulty in forming a stable coalition, it declines the station with the profit of Manmohan Singh.
In March 2005, it resigns of its post of deputy and president of the national advisory council. These resignations make following the critic of BJP as for nonthe compliance with a rule of the Parliament prohibiting the office plurality of public station remunerated.
