It is celebrates it discoverer of talents John H. Hammond who made sign Leonard Cohen with Columbia. It was to also produce the album but was replaced by John Simon for health reasons.
Collaboration with this last occurred very well, the singer and the producer being most of the time over the same wavelength. Their only dissension related to the song Suzanne : Simon wanted to accompany the piece by doors syncopes with the Piano and by battery, while Cohen wanted battery on none of its pieces.

The woman is described like a " half-folle" with which " one can spend one night entière" and " voyager" would be liked;. Contrary to certain beliefs, the song does not refer to that which will be the partner of Leonard Cohen in the years 1970, Suzanne Elrod. The second verse contains a not very conventional discussion on Jesus, which was withdrawn in at least a recovery. This verse refers to the figure of Jesus present at the top of the church of the sailors at Montreal.
