Songs From has Room

Songs from has Room is the second album of the singer Leonard Cohen, left in 1969.

The album was recorded with Nashville, capital of the Country, where Leonard Cohen already wished to record his first album. The production is ensured by Bob Johnston which already produced Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel and Johnny Cash.

In spite of a difficult recording where Leonard Cohen feels oppressed by his recording company, Songs from has Room becomes one of the albums of the Canadian singer the most appreciated, for its dark environment and its sonority Acoustique and country.

Bird one the Wire

The piece Bird one the wire had a great influence in the country medium. It was taken again by many artists such as Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, or Joe Cocker.

Serge LAMA also recorded a French version of the piece, Vivre all alone , while the piece remained one the most played of by Leonard Cohen in concert, which, on the occasion, also interpreted the version of Serge LAMA.

Story off Isaac

Story off Isaac points out the Jewish origins of the Canadian type-setter. The piece tells the episode of the Old Testament in which Abraham receives the order of God to sacrifice his son Isaac. Whereas it is on the point of doing it, God intervenes to prevent the sacrifice.

Leonard Cohen: " Aujourd'hui the children are sacrificed and nobody raises the hand to prevent the sacrifice " " It is a song written for those which think that they have the right to sacrifice the young people for some plan which they imagine to be holy or right. ".

Some think that particularly addresses to the state Israel and the policy Zionist, but Cohen there forever made explicit allusion, and even added: " It is a song for them (previously quoted) , and it is also a song for those which would like to enlist me against these people-there to overcome them. The Partisan , which particularly met a great success in Europe, is an adaptation of the lament of the partisan of Anna Marly, author of famous the Chant of the partisans . This english language version is at the origin of Hy Zaret.

The song pays a homage to resistant during the Second world war. She is sung in the two languages (English and French) by Leonard Cohen.

Seems So Long Ago, Nancy
