Song to has Seagull

Song to has Seagull is the first album of Joni Mitchell, left in 1968. It initially left under the name of its interpreter because of an error of the recording company Reprise again Records. The later editions entitled it Song to has Seagull , and the desired title is clearly visible on the small pocket.

It is about a Album-concept divided into two aprties, " I Cam To The City" and " Out off the City and Down to the Seaside". The first title refers to the failure of its marriage with Chuck Mitchell in Detroit, and " Michael from Mountains, " explore a similar topic, by asking whether it is possible really to love somebody in also knowing it. " Night in the City" celebrate the life of the night, " Marcie" fact the portrait of a woman alone, undoubtedly a friend of Joni, and " Nathan Franeer" finish the face one by the authentic account of the meeting with a bitter taxi driver.

The second face attacks more natural and organic topics: " Sisotowbell Lane" described domestic happiness, while " The Dawntreader" and " Pirate off Penance" are related to the sea - the first speaks about a mystical captain who calls it the broad one, then of a fatal pirate with which a dancer is in love. Although some think that " The Dawntreader" was written for David Crosby, Mitchell contradicted this assertion. The last two titles treat freedom: " Song to has Seagull" and " Tree." cactus; " Song to has Seagull" is particularly remarkable in its very free treatment of the desire of freedom.

Joni Mitchell will notice later that this album reflects more are love of the Classical music that Musique folk or songs with the manner of Bob Dylan, which shows obviously the harmonies rich, often required, and the words of a dense poetry of the album.

The album was produced by David Crosby, which acknowledged " later; to have approximately simply pressed on the button enregistrer". Joni had worked its songs during years by playing them in clubs, and needed to make neither postsynchronization nor several catches. It as revealed as it had recorded Mitchell singing beside an open piano to collect the vibrations of the cords in resonance with its voice.

Stephen Stills took part in the title " Night in the City" as a low guitar. It is interesting to note that Mitchell had already taken again successfully songs recorded by others artites (" Both Sides, Now, " " Chelsea Morning" (Judy Hakes), " Eastern Rain" (Fairport Convention), " Be urgent for Going, " " The Circle Game" (Tom Rush)), but none them for its first album chose.

Joni said that the song " Sisotowbell" qu'" expressed; To some extent, in spite of the problems, our love will last toujours".
