Geography
Village of the Eastern slope of the Massive of the Vosges, Sondernach shares with Mittlach the privilege to be located at the upstream of a large valley, sprinkled by one of the brooks forming the Fecht. The altitude of the center is located between 600 and 700 meters. The origin of the name of the village is not very clear, it could mean “der Sonne nahe” which wants to say close to the sun , or “zum sundern Ach” which means " close to the brook sud" , Sondernach being the village more in the south of the valley.Variations and localities: Schnepfenriedwasen (with horse on the commune of Metzeral, Landersen, Landersbach
