Sonata for flute, viola and toothing-stone

The Sonata for flute, viola and toothing-stone of Claude Debussy made up in 1915 and was dedicated to the wife of the type-setter, Emma Debussy. Work was created with Paris on March 9th 1917 at the time of a concert of charity.

It is about one of last works of Debussy, made up the same year as the Sonate for violoncello and piano and than In white and black . Its singular instrumentation (the flute, the viola and the Harpe had never been associated in a part of room) confers a soft sound atmosphere and melancholic person to him, with the Eastern accents.

It comprises three movements and its execution time approaches the twenty minutes :

  1. Pastoral. Lento, dolce rubato
  2. Interlude. Tempo di minuetto
  3. Final. Allegro moderato my risoluto
