Some widows of Noirmoutier
Documentary film carried out by Agnes Varda in 2005 in the prolongation of the exposure the island and she , conceived by Varda with the Foundation Cartier in Paris. The installation the widows of Noirmoutier introduced various women filmed by Varda, young people or old women, having jointly their widowhood and their residence in the island of Noirmoutier. The film, with the title moderated by the addition of the adjective Some , is a 69 minute old assembly of these at the same time simple meetings and melancholic persons, who is completed in a way very delicate and upsetting, on a dumb level of Varda itself on the beach, widow among the widows.
" Besides their social state which inspires the respect, one did not often study how the women live to them veuvage" , explains Agnès Varda. " They - I would almost always say - are often defined by their report/ratio in dead which was their husband. My project was to approach me some widows of the island, to listen to them, to film them during meetings and that each one testifies to its emotions, its feelings or its memories. Why in this island? Because Jacques Demy and me we went there since 1962. We have our house of family there, vis-a-vis the sea. I know there many people and now I have been widowed there for fourteen years… "
