Sombrio

Sombrio is a city Brésil ienne south of the State of Santa Catarina.

General information

The city was mainly populated by from the Azores immigrants , Portuguese, Italian and German. Its main activities are the industry of the clothes industry, the Chaussure and the Céramique.

Every two years, the Arraialfest is held in Sombrio, generally in July.

Origin of the name

An explanation is required since many years to explain the origin of the name of the city, that much does not like because it means “shade” or “Portuguese sadness”. In this case, it would be rather about the shade dependant at rest, that gotten by the Figuier S under which the traveller at the hours of heat takes refuge.

Geography

Sombrio is located by a Latitude of 29° 06 ' 14" south and by a Longitude of 49° 37 ' 44" west, with a Altitude of 10 meters. Its population was estimated at: 26293 inhabitants in 2006. The municipality extends on 143 km ².

It is located on the littoral, to 7 km of the ocean, to 240 km of Florianópolis and 230 km of Porto Alegre.
