The congregation of the Clerks regular of Somasque, whose members are usually called Somasques was founded with Somasque ( Somasca ) close to Bergamo (Italy) towards 1535 by Saint Jerome Emilien for the education of youth, and in particular to come to assistance of the young people without family, given up or orphan.

Jerome Emilien was noble Venetian full with compassion for the abandoned children. It is deceased in 1537.

The congregation was approved by Pie V in 1568.

Very many at the 17th century, they are still approximately 500 distributed in 88 houses.
