SomaFM

SomaFM is a noncommercial Webradio, only financed by the subscriptions of its listeners. It is located at Bernal Heights, in the surroundings of San Francisco. She proposes several stations, exclusively on the most popular Internet, being “Groove Salad”, which diffuses music Down tempo.

History

SomaFM began like Pirate radio station with the festival from the Burning Man, in 1999. The success met by the project encouraged Rusty Hodge to launch, in February 2000, a permanent radio on Internet.

In May 2002, a disagreement with RIAA failed to make close the radio: the organization required approximately 15.000 $ per month to allow the musical diffusion. But, after the adoption by the congress of the Small Broadcasters Amendment Act , SomaFM could obtain reductions on the required rights: from 2000 to 5000 $ per annum. The resumption of the emissions took place in December 2002.

Type of emissions

SomaFM proposes various stations making it possible to listen to Down tempo, Acid jazz, Nu jazz, Country, americana, Glitch, undue, Trance. The list of the stations east: Groove Salad, Secret Agent, Drone Zone, Doomed, Space Station Summoned, indie pop rock'n'rolls, Illinois Street Lounge, Beat Blender, Tag' S Trance Trip, cliqhop idm, Boot Liquor. SomaFM also proposes a Podcast called “Groove Salad -- Taste off the Week”: alt.NPR.
