Solvytchegodsk
Solvytchegodsk (in Russian: Сольвычегодск, literally " salt on the Vychegda" river;) is a city of the Oblast d' Arkhangelsk, in Russia. It is located on Right Bank of the river Vychegda, to 25 km in the North-East of Kotlas. Its population rose with: 2843 inhabitants with the census of 2002.
Solvytchegodsk was founded at the 14th century on banks of the lake Solyanoïe. The city was called Oussolsk at the 15th century. The Stroganov family resided at it since the 16th century and had her own saltworks there. With 16th and 17th centuries, Solvytchegodsk had a very active trade and a craft industry and was the arts center of the North of Russia. It was particularly famous for the work of the enamel.
In 1796, the city passed under the jurisdiction of the government (gouberniya) of Vologda. It was also a political place of exile. In 1937, Solvychegodsk was attached to the Oblast of Arkhangelsk.
The city has hydropathic establishments where medicinal springs and muds of the lake Solyanoïe are employed.
