Solvay is a chemical and pharmaceutical company Belgian.

It was founded by Ernest Solvay, a Belgian chemist which deposited the April 15th 1861 a patent on a process of production of the soda carbonate (the Procédé Solvay).

The first factory of Solvay opened with Couillet in 1865.

Nowadays, Solvay is present in 50 countries and account approximately: 29000 employees. In 2006, its consolidated turnover was of 9,4 billion euros distributed between three branches: chemistry, pharmacy and production of plastics. Solvay belongs to the index Euronext 100.
