Hydrology
The flow of Solre was observed for one 35 years period (1973-2007), with Tool bag-the-Large, locality of the Département of North, located very close to its confluence with the Sambre. The catchment area of the river is of 115 km ² at this place.
The interannual medium flow or module of the river to Tool bag-the-Large is of 1,42 m ³ a second.
Solre present of the seasonal fluctuations of medium flow, with high waters of winter-spring characterized by an average flow monthly going from 1,74 to 2,34 m ³ a second, from December to April included (maximum in January and especially February), and of low waters of be-beginning of autumn, from July to October included, with a fall of the monthly medium flow until 0,612 m ³ in September (612 liters a second), which remains rather consistent.
The VCN3 can however fall with 0,15 m ³ or 150 liters a second, in the event of dry period quinquennial, which is in the standard of the rivers of the area. The VCN3 is the past minimal quantity or minimal flow over three days consecutive.
In addition the risings can be rather important. The QIX 2 and QIX 5, or flows calculated for a biennial and quinquennial rising, are worth respectively 13 and 19 m ³. The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is worth 23 m ³ a second, while the QIX 20 is assembled to 27 m ³. As for the QIX 50, it is assembled to 32 m ³ a second. (see note). The maximum instantaneous flow recorded with Tool bag-the-Large was of 54,8 m ³ a second on July 1st, 1980, while the value maximum day laborer was of 33,4 m ³ a second on July 21st of the same year. By comparing the first of these figures with the values of the various QIX of the river, it appears that these risings were much more important than the calculated risings cinquantennales QIX 50, and thus completely exceptional.
Solre is an abundant river, taking into account the smallness of its basin. The Lame of water past in its catchment area is of 390 millimetres annually, which is definitely higher than the overall average of France, and comparable with the close rivers, the such Sambre, the Helpe Majeure and the Helpe Mineure. The specific Débit (or Qsp) is assembled consequently at 12,3 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.
