Solomon of Brittany
Solomon (? - † 874), wire of Riwallon count of the Poher, was king de Bretagne of 857 with 874. Its festival is the June 25th.
Its name
The name comes from the name of the biblical king. Into old Breton, its name was Salamun , become Salavun , then into Breton modern Salaün, family name spread in Brittany.He was assassinated in a church on June 25th, 874 in a place called today Ar Merzher Martyrdom in remembering this event. Its death makes it proclaim Martyr by the people and the Catholic church.
Its life
According to the yearly of Saint Bertin, the weather receives into 852 a third of Brittany of his cousin after being been the faithful one of the king Charles the Bald person.
It is crowned king of Brittany in 857, after having assassinated his cousin Erispoë, of which it did not approve the bringing together with the France, on the furnace bridge of a church, with the assistance of Frank Alcmar. Erispoë indeed projected to marry his/her daughter with Louis, wire of Charles II the Bald person.
In 863, by the Treated of Entrammes (Mayenne), it acquires on the Francs the Maine and part of the Anjou. In 867, the Traité of Compiegne concedes to him the Cotentin, the Avranchin as well as the Channel Islands. Brittany reaches its maximum geographical extension then.
Solomon tries to obtain the religious independence of Brittany compared to the archbishop's palace of Tours, while trying to obtain from the pope the erection of évêché of Fraud-of-Brittany in Archevêché.
