Solomon R. Guggenheim
Solomon R. Guggenheim (1861 - 1949), born with Philadelphia, goes down from a family of emigrants Swiss-German which made fortune at the 19th century in the noble metals.
After having founded Yukon Gold Company in Alaska, it is withdrawn in 1919 and becomes collector of nonfigurative art and patron. It creates its foundation in 1937, brings its collection to him of which it entrusts the artistic director to Hilla de Rebay. The construction of a first museum New-Yorkais is decided in 1943 pennies the direction of the architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Solomon R. Guggenheim dies into 1949 before the beginning of work.
