Rabbi Chelomo Ben Aderet (1235 - 1310), more known under its acronym Rachba , was Rabbin, legalist, banker and Talmud extremely famous ist.

He was born with Barcelona in 1235, and had as a Master Ramban and Rabbenou Yona, before becoming a large financier and the chief of the Spanish community. Its fame went beyond its borders, since he addressed his responsa in North Africa and France, where he was requested by Abba Mari in the controversy started by the writings of Maïmonide. It trained many disciples, among whom the Ritva and Rabbenou Behaye.

Responsa

In its spare time, he wrote a great number of Responsa, covering the whole of the Jewish life. Their concision and their accuracy made a model of it, and they are brought back nowadays still by many halakhic authorities.

Attitude with respect to Maïmonide

Although it defended the work of Maïmonide during the debates on its work, it condemned the rationalizing approach developed by the Master. In light, Maïmonide was voluntarily addressed to an elite, but its teaching was widely diffused and easily accessible. It thus formed part of the court pronouncing the excommuniation against whoever would study philosophy below the thirty years age.
