Solomon Alkabetz

Rabbi Ugly Chelomo Ben HaLevi Alkabetz (1505, Salonique (Greece) - 1584, Safed (Israel)) is one of largest the Kabbalistes and Poète S mystics of his time.

Author of the Piyout , liturgical poem, Lekha Dodi . He was a contemporary and friend of Rabbi Yossef Karo, author of the Choulhan Aroukh.

Its comment on the Book of Ruth , Chorech Yichaï , published in 1561, is quoted by almost all the commentators of Ruth who will follow it. It is often quoted in Igueret Chemouel , Lehem Dima and other commentators who refer to him under several names: “ Rachba HaLevi ”, “ Rabbi Chelomo HaLevi ”, “ Harav Ibn Alkabetz ”.

It sent to his father-in-law his comment on the Livre of Esther , Manot Halevi , which it had finished, as a Michloah Manot (gift of Pourim), this year there. One accepted the gift with enthusiasm and like more invaluable than of the money and gold gifts.

He writes comments on almost all the Bible, the Haggada of Pessah, the Kabbale, and was important a Païtane (author of liturgical poems). Its Kabbalistique comment on Chir Hachirim (Canticle of the canticles), Ayelet Ahavim , was published for the first time at Safed in 1553.

Its Piyout Lekha Dodi speaks about the sufferings of the people Juif and his aspirations to the Rédemption. No other Piyout , probably, reached the popularity of Lekha Dodi ; he is recited every Friday evenings by all the Jewish communities, in the whole world.
