Solid mass of the Three bishoprices

The massive of the Three bishoprices (in Occitan: Massis dei Tres Evescats ) is a solid mass of the the French Alps located on the department of the Alp-of-High-Provence.

Its name comes from the central top of the solid mass, from which several peaks (north, west and south) leave.

Geography

Situation

The solid mass in the broad sense extends from north in the south between Bès in the west, the Ubaye in north, the the Verdon in the east and the Adze (roughly) in the south. It is also crossed by the Bléone and the small valley of the Laverq.

It is surrounded in north by the Massif of Ubaye, in the east by the Massif of Pelat, in south-east by the Préalpes de Castellane and finally in the south and the west by the Préalpes de Digne (to which certain southernmost tops, even the whole of the solid mass, are sometimes attached, although altitudes significantly higher, and of different orientation).

The Mountain of Cordœil, size and altitude (2114 m) more modest, is entirely isolated from the remainder of the solid mass, by the Verdon with the east and the Issole in north and the west.

Geology

The solid mass of the Three bishoprices consists of Sedimentary rocks, mainly of the sandstone and the Marnes, typical of Préalpes.

The geological nature of the north of the solid mass is attached to the Vallée of Ubaye.

The solid mass conceals two exceptional and high level descents of canyon amongst other things: Male Vesse and Bussing.
