Solid mass of Ubaye

The massive of Ubaye is a solid mass of the the Alps free - Italian located on the departments of the Hautes-Alpes and the Alp-of-High-Provence, like in the area Piedmont. Its Italian part is called Massif of Orrenaye.

It shelters part of the regional natural park of the Queyras.

Geography

Situation

Whereas the Vallée of Ubaye is limited to the basin formed by the slopes of the mountains bordering the river (including part of the Massif of Mercantour), under name solid mass of Ubaye are joined together the solid masses of the Parpaillon (between the Ubaye and the Durance), of the Chambeyron (between Ubaye and the Ubayette) and of Escreins (between Ubaye and the Guil).

It is surrounded by Embrun, Guillestre, Saint-Véran and Barcelonnette.

At north are located the the Alps cottiennes and the Massif of Queyras, in the North-West the Massif of the Jewel cases, in south-west the Massif of the Three bishoprices, in south-east the Massif of Mercantour.

    • the Pics of Make Sancte, 3385 m; firm the Valley of Escreins (reserve of nature where the source is from which the peak draws its name) and dominates the valley of Ceillac.

Geology

The solid mass of Ubaye consists of Sedimentary rocks, in particular containing Flysch S.
