Solid mass of Hochschwab

The massive of Hochschwab is a solid mass of the septentrional Préalpes Eastern. It rises in Austria (Land of Styrie).

The Hochschwab is the culminating point of the solid mass.

Geography

Situation

The solid mass is surrounded by the the Alps d' Ybbstal in north, the the Alps de Mürzsteg in the east, the the Alps de Lavanttal in the south and the the Alps d' Ennstal in the west.

It is bordered by the Mur in the south and the Enns in the North-West.

Geology

The mountains consist of a plate Calcaire central resulting from a coral Récif of a surface of approximately 400 km ².

Flora and fauna

Marmotte S, Chamois, Bouquetin S and capercaillie belong inter alia to the intact fauna of the solid mass. Moreover, it shelters the largest colony of chamois of Europe. Consequently, the gastronomy is very directed in the area towards the wild specialities.

On the level of the flora, one finds ears of bear, shoes of Venus and different species from Gentiane S.
