Solheim Cup

The Solheim Cup is a trophy of Golf concerned every two years that dispute Europe and the United States in a tournament by female teams.

The tournament

Created in 1990 per Karsten and Louise Solheim (creative of the mark Ping (golf)) the Solheim Cup is a competition which respects the same format as the Ryder Cup, its equivalent at the men.

She opposes best European the, given ones by the classification of the profits since the last Solheim Cup on the European cicuit (or LET: Wrap Di Kappa Ladies European Tour) and best American of the American circuit (LPGA: Ladies Professional Golf Association).

The test lasts three days, of the Friday to Sunday. The first formation which reaches the score of 14 points and half, is declared gaining trophy.

The first two days are competitions by teams of two:

  • Foursomes : the two players of the same team play alternatively the same ball. With each new hole, the player giving the departure is permuted.
  • Fourball or 4 balls, better ball : Each player plays his own ball. The best player of the four candidates gains the point for his team.

the system of accounting used to determine the winner of a match at the time this competition is the Match-play. This one is based on the winners of each hole. The winner of a hole takes a point. the results of a match are presented in the following way:

  • equality (or all public garden): 1/2 point is allotted to each team.

  • 1 up or 2 up: the match went at the end of the 18 holes and gaining it finished with one or two holes in advance
  • 3 and 2, 5 and 4. : the players did not dispute all 18 hole. The gaining player carried out of more than points than there did not remain holes and thus the part is completed. For example, in case 3 and 2, it did not remain any more that two holes to be disputed and the gaining player carried out of three points.
