Soleure ( German Solothurn in , Italian Soletta in ) is a Swiss Ville, capital of the Canton of Soleure.

Geography

Located between the Weissenstein and the Aar, Soleure is an important industrial, commercial and cultural center. The city extends on both sides from the Aar.

History

The town of Soleure was allowed in the Confederation only in 1481. Although the Reform in its beginnings found many members in the campaigns, Soleure remains finally faithful to the catholic faith. The ambassador of France near the Swiss Diète settles in 1530 there and until in 1792 resided at it.

Transport

In addition to the regional buses, the city is on the railway line Zurich - Olten - Bienne and is the departure of the lines Soleure- Moutier, Soleure- Burgdorf, Soleure- Niederbipp - Langenthal, Soleure- Bern.

It is also located on the line of boats which connects Bienne like on the highways A5 (left 31,32,33) and A1.

Monuments and museums

The hurdy-gurdy town of Soleure includes/understands many monuments, such as the tower of Basle, and that of Bienne, the old Arsenal (and its museum presenting of the collections d´insignes and medals, of military equipment of the soldier, collection of graphic arts, and musical instruments soldier), the cathedral St the USSR and the church of the Jesuits, the tower of the clock, Landhaus (the place of transporting mooring of the boats of the wine from where the French expression “outward journey on Soleure” when one is drunk) or the Besenval Palate.

The museum of natural history is known to be a gravitational museum for the family with her didactic exposures. It exposes animals, plants, fossils, stones of the area. The museum of art exposes at the same time former Swiss Masters (Cuno Amiet, Ferdinand Hodler, Giacometti, Valloton,…) and foreigners (Van Gogh, Klimt, Degas, Cezanne, Matisse, Renoir, Rouault,…) as well as works of contemporary artists.

The city also comprises a museum of the headstock, a Kosciuszko museum, presenting the death chamber and of the personal memories in commemoration to Tadeusz Kościuszko, a museum of the computers and the museum of the stone.

Demonstrations

The city is known for its Carnaval, but also for its cinematographic days (Swiss cinema), for the literary days of Soleure , for the Classic Openair as well as the fair of autumn HESO where the companies of the area expose their products.

Distinctions

Soleure obtains the Prix Wakker in 1980.
