Soldatensender Calais
Soldatensender Calais was a British radio station directed by Sefton Delmer during the second world war. It was made pass for a station of the German army. It functioned of the October 24th 1943 with the April 30th 1945.
It emitted in medium waves on 833kHz (360 meters), 714 Khz (420 meters) and 612kHz (490 meters), with a station in short waves which was associated to him, Kurzwellensender Atlantik. The radio used a transmitter of 600 kilowatt built at the origin for WLW with Cincinnati. It is remained unused with the factory after the FFC, authority of communication of the the United States, imposed a limit of 50kW. Radio Corporation off America (RCA) was thus charmed to sell the transmitter. Having for Aspidistra code name, it was installed in an underground bunker.
Soldatensender Calais functioned 6 hours of the morning to laying down sun.
It diffused good music, covered the sport news and other events interesting of the soldiers to collect the attention of the soldiers and to make that they are receptive with propaganda, intended to demoralize them.
During the first day of the unloading of the June 6th 1944, Sodaltensender Calais disseminated information intended to make accept the officers German information that the surface of invasion was vaster than in reality. Once the Pas-de-Calais under combined control, the station changes its name into Sodaltensender West .
It stops its operation the April 30th 1945 without announcing it.
