Sokone

Sokone (sometimes Sokhone ) is a locality of the delta of the Saloum (Senegal).

History

Administration

It is one of the three communes of the Département of Foundiougne in the area of Fatick.

Geography

Sokone is at the edge of the road which goes from Kaolack to Banjul (Gambia), also near the National park of the delta of Saloum.

Geological physics

Population

At the time of the censuses of 1988 and 2002, the population was respectively of 8.552 and 11.124 inhabitants.

In 2007, according to the official estimates, Sokone would count 12.645 people.

Economy

The agriculture and the breeding of Huître S belong to the local activities. Recently, one also developed the culture of the Anacardier (Cashew nut).
