Sogetel is a private Entreprise of Québécois Télécommunication founded in 1892. It employs more than 85 employees.

History

  • 1892 - Foundation of the company by a group of citizen of Nicolet under the name of Company of the telephone of Nicolet.

  • 1922 - official Incorporation of the company. This one counts 25 shareholders of which the businessman Henri-Napoleon Biron. At that time, the company counts 96 telephones in service.
  • 1946 - the company moves in new buildings built at the cost of 13.680$ on the street Priest-Fortier, with Nicolet.
  • 1953 - the telephone center is replaced by a system with common batteries. Before this date, batteries were to be installed at each subscriber.
  • 1961 - the building of the street Priest-Fortier is increased and the exchange is replaced by a new electromechanical exchange of type “step by step” (step).
  • 1979 - the company acquires the Téléphone companies rural of Beauceville and Téléphone Dorchester.
  • 1980 - the expansion of 1979 encourages the direction to change the company name of the Company of the telephone of Nicolet for Sogetel. The new name is born from the contraction of General society of Telecommunications.

In the tread, the company, then directed by Michel Biron (wire of H. - NR. Biron), undertakes the digitalization as of its exchanges and carries out the modernization of the whole of its network.

  • 1983 - Beginning of the project of rural dispersal of the " lines with quatre".

  • 1990 - Fine of work of the project of rural dispersal. At this time, all the subscribers profit from an high quality service urban in rural environment with an individual phone line.
  • 1992 - Sogetel makes set up a new head office on part of the foundations of the old manufacture of low H. - N.Biron & Fils. This new building will be baptized besides Édifice H. - N.Biron. The old offices contiguous to the exchange of the street Priest-Fortier, become too small, will be unused for several years. The exchange will remain however in this building.
  • 1994 - Acquisition of Daaquam Telephone which serves approximately 500 subscribers in the municipalities of Saint-Just-of-Bretenières and of Lake-Border. The transaction increases the number of lines with 16.500.
The same year is founded the subsidiary company Sogetel Mobilité and the beginning of the deployment of four cellular sites located at Lake-Etchemin, Holy-Justine, Beauceville and Nicolet.
  • 1996 - Sogetel supplements work of replacement of its seventeen (17) central “step by step” by numerical switches and distant units.

Sogetel Mobilité brings into service a new cellular site at Our-Lady-of-Good-Council.

  • 1997 - Startup of a sixth cellular site with Saint-Zacharie.

  • 1998 - Launching on service Internet Galileo. The company offers the service of access Internet high-speed to 768kbps to the Lake-Etchemin and Beauceville.
  • 1999 - service Internet Galileo is offered to the subscribers of Nicolet and in some other municipalities of Etchemins.
  • 2000 - Sogetel becomes purchaser of Services Internet NTIC, a supplier of access Internet located at Saint-Hyacinthe. The transaction makes pass the number of subscribers to service Internet Galileo to nearly 6500 subscribers. The new subsidiary company, renamed Sogetel Internet NTIC, is then seen entrusting the customer support for the whole of the subscribers of the service.
  • 2001 - Sogetel Mobilité deploys the numerical cellular service with Nicolet.
  • 2002 - Creation of Interurban Sogetel.
  • 2004 - the manufacture of low H. - N.Biron & Wire, unoccupied for several years, has been demolished and the head office of Sogetel is prolonged on its foundations.
  • 2005 - Acquisition of two independent telcos is the Telco of Saint-Liboire-of-Bagot (TSL) and Telephones Milot (TMI) of St-Paulin. These two transactions increases the number of line of access to more than 25.500. The activities of the supplier of access Internet Groups Bookmark More, subsidiary of TSL, are integrated into Sogetel Internet NTIC.
  • 2006 - Deployment of network WiMax in the MRC of Nicolet-Yamaska and Bécancour.
  • 2007 - Acquisition of the Corporation of Telephone of Bay of Bay-of-Febvre the.
